What you get

A Löwenbuch is a personally designed picture book, printed and posted to you — with your own child inside the story rather than a stranger's.

  • A printed book, not a file It is printed, bound and delivered. Each copy is made for one child, so no two of them are the same.
  • Your child in the pictures You send a photograph and a name, and the illustrations are redrawn with the help of AI, and checked by us, so the child on every page is yours. A grown-up they know can be in it too.
  • It can read itself aloud Hold a phone over a printed page and the picture moves and the characters speak, in AI voices made from your recordings. Optional, and always an addition to reading together.

Inside this book

4 sample spreads, shown with the text as it will be printed.

The language your copy would be printed in — not the language of this shop.

Book facts

Tap the characters to hear them, and watch every spread move — the ring going down the tunnel, the fireworks that are too big to catch, and the smallest beep in the world in the quiet room.

What you choose

You make these choices when you order. Each one changes the printed pages, the illustrations and the voices you hear in the app.

Who is in it

These roles are cast from your own family. You choose who each one is and, depending on the level, upload a photo and a short voice recording when you order.

What is in the pictures

The plush toy

Rex goes through the whole book — carried, squeezed, propped on the ear doctor's tray. Choose which toy that is, or send a photo of your child's own.

  • Bunny Bunny
  • Elephant Elephant
  • Lion cub Lion cub
  • Teddy bear Teddy bear
  • Plush dinosaur Plush dinosaur
  • My child's own toy

How old the child is

Drives the child's face and proportions in the drawings. The pages are staged for a four-year-old, so a bigger number changes who is drawn, not how the scenes are laid out.

A number between 3 and 5.

The stripes on the child's top

The cream top under the dungarees is striped, and the same top is the pyjama top at night. Coral is what the book is drawn in.

  • Soft coral Soft coral
  • Teal green Teal green
  • Mustard yellow Mustard yellow
  • Deep pine green Deep pine green

The colour of the pyjama trousers

The pyjama trousers the child wears at night, under the same striped top worn as pyjamas. Mustard is what the book is drawn in — pick whatever you like, it no longer has to match the daytime dungarees.

  • Mustard yellow
  • Teal green
  • Soft coral
  • Deep pine green
  • Warm tan

What the ear doctor is called

Leave this empty and she stays Ada. If your child is really going to see somebody, type their name and the book uses it — printed on the page and spoken aloud.

You write this one yourself.

Things to try with your ears

Three things to try, with a grown-up.

  • MAKE A SOUND MAP Sit still in one room with your eyes shut and count everything you can hear. Draw the room and put each sound where it came from. Do the same room…
  • WHICH EAR GOT IT FIRST? Shut your eyes and have somebody click their fingers somewhere in the room. Point at it. One ear tells you a sound happened…
  • SAY IT WITH YOUR HANDS Pick three things you say every day — hello, thank you, more — and find out how to sign them. Then use them across a room, through a window, or when…

For the grown-up reading this

Ears clean themselves. Nothing should be put into an ear canal — not a cotton bud, not a finger, not a corner of a towel — because everything that goes in pushes wax further in…

  • Loud sound does its damage quietly and permanently. Distance, time and ear defenders all work, and defenders at a firework display or a concert are…
  • Hearing after a cold often sounds muffled for a while, and that usually settles. Worth a hearing check: speech that is behind where you would expect…
  • Hearing aids and sign language are tools, not repairs, and this book says so: an aid gives an ear a hand, and hands are simply faster through a pane…
